Regional Coworking Network Workbar To Return To Union Square With New Location

New Space Opens As Local Demand For Flexible Workspaces Grows Year-Over-Year

BOSTON, MA, July 14, 2026 – Workbar, Greater Boston’s original coworking network, announced today that it will open a new location in Somerville’s Union Square, within the new 50 Prospect Street mixed-use development that sits next to the Union Square MBTA station. This announcement marks Workbar’s return to the area and a strengthening of its commitment to Greater Boston’s growing business community.

Founded in 2009, Workbar quickly established itself as a pillar of Boston business by developing a network of city and suburban locations intentionally designed around where (and how) people work. Since then, Workbar has expanded across Boston and its suburbs to support increasing demand in a metro that is outpacing the national average for flexible workspace.

For the team at Workbar, the upcoming Union Square opening is a much-anticipated return. The 10,000-square-foot location will feature Workbar's signature “activity-based coworking neighborhoods,” private offices, and bookable meeting rooms.

“We’re excited to be back in Union Square,” said Sarah Travers, CEO of Workbar, who was recently recognized as one of the women leaders shaping the Boston startup community. “Union Square is quickly becoming a hub for innovation and growth, and Workbar is betting on its continued transformation. As a Boston-born-and-built company ourselves, we’re proud to invest in the businesses and professionals that call this community home.”

“Workbar’s return to Union Square is another sign of the momentum we’re seeing in one of Somerville’s most important neighborhood centers,” said Mayor Jake Wilson. “Union Square has long been a place where small businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, and neighbors come together. As the district continues to grow around transit, new housing, public space, and commercial activity, flexible workspaces can help support the people and ideas that keep Somerville’s local economy moving forward.”

Workbar previously operated a location in Union Square, which opened in 2015. For its new location, Workbar is partnering once again with USQ to provide first-in-class workspaces and community. "Workbar's return to Union Square speaks to the rapid growth of this community, and the return of Somerville's historic downtown as a commercial center.” shares Greg Karczewski, President of USQ. “We've had dozens of requests in the last year alone for a flexible workspace option with easy access to the Union Square neighborhood and the green line. Together with Workbar, we're excited to make this solution available to the community."

Workbar’s Union Square announcement builds on the recent expansion in Needham, as well as the announcement of a new location in Harvard Square. The strength of the network lies not only in its geographic reach, but also in the depth and diversity of the Workbar community.

"Where we work is changing,” said Travers. “With some of the nation's top talent and most innovative companies, Greater Boston is leading the way. Companies and individuals are demanding flexibility, proximity, and spaces designed around how they actually work. Workbar’s continued expansion reflects our commitment to meeting that demand and doubling down on Boston’s momentum."

Workbar Union Square is expected to open its doors in late fall 2026.
